Attorney FAQ

Everything attorneys ask us, answered plainly. Still have a question? Email us — a real person answers.

The basics

What is GraySuit?

A flat-fee attorney directory and marketplace. Prospective clients answer a structured, plain-English intake, browse listings organized by objective criteria, and book consultations directly on attorneys' calendars. GraySuit is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice, and does not recommend or endorse any attorney.

Is GraySuit a lawyer referral service?

No. GraySuit is a paid attorney directory listing service. We do not recommend, endorse, or refer clients to any specific attorney — clients browse, filter, and choose for themselves. Attorneys pay a flat subscription fee, and GraySuit never receives any portion of legal fees.

How is this different from Avvo, FindLaw, or lead-generation services?

Placement on GraySuit cannot be purchased at any price. Listings are ordered only by objective data — client service ratings and distance from the searcher. There are no premium placements, no sponsored slots, and no pay-per-inquiry pricing, and we've written that into the platform itself.

Who can list on GraySuit?

Attorneys with an active license in good standing. The signup state picker shows where you can list today. Each listing is tied to one bar number and state.

Pricing and billing

What does it cost?

One practice area is free: a screener page, your own link, and answers in your dashboard. Suggested is $99/month or $749/year and covers four practice areas with your firm's branding on your link. Premium is $300/month or $3,000/year with no practice-area cap. Every plan includes a marketplace listing for each practice area you configure. Paid plans are billed at signup. No promo code. That is the entire deal. Plus applicable sales tax at checkout. Attorneys who joined earlier keep the rate they signed up at.

Do you take a percentage of my fees or charge per inquiry?

Never. No percentage of legal fees, no per-inquiry or per-client charges, no charge for placement. A flat subscription is the only thing we ever bill — consistent with Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct 5.4 and 7.3 and their counterparts in other states.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Your subscription renews on your chosen schedule and you can cancel at any time; your listing stays active until the end of the current billing period.

What happens if my subscription lapses?

Your listing comes off the marketplace and your clients lose access to your client portal until you resubscribe. Your account and profile data are retained.

Is there a firm or multi-seat plan?

No. Each attorney subscribes individually and gets their own profile, inquiries, bookings, and client portal. This keeps pricing simple and every listing tied to one verified bar number.

Ranking and visibility

How is the order of search results determined?

By objective data only: client service ratings and distance from the searcher's ZIP code. Order is not a recommendation or endorsement by GraySuit.

Can I pay to appear higher?

No — at any price. There is no mechanism for it on the platform. This is GraySuit's core commitment to both attorneys and the public.

I'm new and have no ratings. Am I buried?

New listings display a "New on GraySuit — no ratings yet" badge and are not penalized; proximity still surfaces you for nearby searchers. Every attorney starts from the same line.

Verification

How do you verify attorneys?

Every listing is independently checked against the official attorney-licensing records of its state — bar number, standing, and admission date. Activated listings are verified within 24 hours of signup.

What do I need to sign up?

Your bar number, your bar-registered email, and about ten minutes at graysuitlegal.com/subscribe.

Unclaimed listings

Why am I listed on GraySuit when I never signed up?

Some listings are compiled from public state bar records — name, firm, city, bar status, admission year, and practice areas only. They carry no ratings or reviews, appear only after activated profiles in search, and are accompanied by a notice that inclusion does not indicate participation, endorsement, or any relationship with GraySuit.

How do I remove my unclaimed listing?

Use the removal link on your listing, or reply "remove" to any email from us. It comes down within one business day, permanently, no questions asked.

How do I claim my listing?

Click "Claim this profile" on your listing, verify with your bar number and bar-registered email, and activate a subscription. Claiming lets you edit your profile, view inquiries, and take bookings.

Inquiries and bookings

How do prospective clients reach me?

People searching your state and practice area find your listing and submit a structured inquiry. You're notified by email; inquiry details are available in your dashboard.

What's in an inquiry?

Structured, tap-only answers: general legal category, urgency, county, fee-type preference, and screening answers relevant to the practice area. Clients never free-text case facts into the platform — a deliberate design that protects you from unsolicited confidential information before you've run your own checks.

Do notification emails contain case details?

No. Notifications tell you an inquiry matching your practice area and county is waiting — details stay inside your dashboard.

How does booking work?

Clients book consultations directly onto your connected calendar. A two-step confirmation prevents double-bookings. You control your availability.

Am I obligated to take any client?

No. You review each inquiry and decide — accept, decline, or ignore. Declining has no effect on your listing or ratings.

Ratings and reviews

How are ratings structured?

Five process-oriented dimensions: communication, professionalism, punctuality, clarity of explanations, and transparency. Ratings reflect client-reported service experience only — never case outcomes or results.

Why don't ratings measure outcomes?

Outcome-based ratings would be misleading (every case is different) and would conflict with attorney-advertising rules like GA Rule 7.1. Measuring service keeps ratings fair to litigators who take hard cases.

Can a review be deleted?

Reviews are hidden, never deleted. If a review violates our policies, it's removed from display but preserved for the record. You can flag a review for our team from your dashboard.

Compliance

Is GraySuit compliant with my state's bar rules?

GraySuit operates as a flat-fee directory: attorneys pay a fixed listing fee never contingent on obtaining clients, GraySuit takes no portion of legal fees, and no one pays for placement or recommendations. See the full summary at graysuitlegal.com/compliance — and we encourage you to share it with your ethics counsel.

Does using GraySuit create an attorney-client relationship with inquirers?

No. The intake tells every user, before they begin, that submitting an inquiry does not create an attorney-client relationship, is not privileged, and is not legal advice. A relationship forms only if and when you sign an engagement agreement with a client.

Is my profile content my responsibility?

Yes. Each attorney is an independent practitioner responsible for their own advertising content. We screen profiles for compliance issues (superlatives, outcome claims) at verification, but the content is yours.

Account and data

How is my payment information handled?

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card is never stored on GraySuit's servers.

What data do you collect about my clients?

The minimum needed to run intake, matching, and booking. We don't sell data. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.

How do I get help?
